Founder's Message

Dear Members of the Canadian Malayali Community and Fellow Canadians,

Canada is more than a place of residence. It is a nation built on democracy, participation, fairness, and shared responsibility. Its strength comes from individuals and communities who engage fully, contribute constructively, and place the common good above narrow interests.

For over six decades, Malayalis have contributed meaningfully to Canada across healthcare, education, business, technology, social services, and public life — raising families grounded in Canadian values and respect for democratic institutions.

The Centre for Canadian Malayali Affairs (CCMA) was established as a national platform to strengthen integration, leadership, and socio-economic participation within Canada’s existing institutions. Our purpose is clear: to support community development while contributing responsibly to Canada’s social, economic, and civic life.

We define integration as full and confident participation in Canada’s economic, civic, and democratic systems — while respecting diversity and upholding shared national values. When individuals engage actively in workplaces, public institutions, and civic spaces, leadership develops, opportunities expand, and shared prosperity becomes possible.

This work is not about where we come from alone — it is about how we contribute, where we belong, and how we prepare the next generation to participate responsibly in Canada’s future.

Our efforts are guided by three priorities:

Social empowerment — strengthening inclusion, access, and participation
Economic empowerment — supporting entrepreneurship, professional growth, and stability
Civic empowerment — encouraging informed, ethical, and non-partisan engagement

Together, these priorities reflect a commitment to unity, integration, and shared prosperity within Canadian society.

CCMA operates as a responsible national institution — developing leaders, supporting economic initiatives, and engaging constructively with governments, institutions, and diverse communities across Canada.

While rooted in community experience, CCMA remains open and inclusive. We welcome professionals, youth, entrepreneurs, seniors, and partners from all backgrounds who share a commitment to participation, leadership, and responsible contribution.

Every contribution strengthens community resilience.
Every act of participation strengthens Canada.

We invite you to engage — with integrity, purpose, and shared responsibility.

Sincerely,
Praveen Varkey, MSW, RSW
